Doors, doors and.... headboards?

Hi everyone! I know, I know.... I've been slacking big time! In my defense... I've been super busy! Ok, not wasting any time here! Here's what's been going on:

I have inherited almost 40 antique doors! Yes...40!! My dear cousin, Clint and his sweet wife Kim wanted to get rid of their "junk" from their barn. Ummm...huh? Doors? Antique doors? Doors that have been in the barn for 40 years and they were at least 40yr old doors when they were put in there? Uh...YEAH! I'll help ya out.....matter a fact....I'll help you out like that ANY TIME! Haha!! Needless to say I was overwhelmed with joy and gratitude to get their "junk" as they called it, out of their barn! So, over a couple of weekends and with the help of some kind souls, I got every last one of them! Even the broken ones! "Broken ones? Why broken ones?" Ohhhh just you wait and see my friend, just wait and see!

Now...what to do with 40 doors! Well, half of them are "different". I knew from the moment that I laid eyes on them that they were not just your every day run of the mill doors. This was because #1. They are friggin HUGE  99in tall. #2. They have wheels on half of these tall ones. Ye'sir these are different. I didn't realize how different though until I spent upteen stinkin many hours searching online, trying to find ANYTHING similar to these doors! I needed to find something similar so I'd know what to charge for them.... even if I don't sell them for their intended purpose, I still need to know what they are worth right? Right! So the search began. After almost a month of searching, I came across a man on Facebook posting pics of the inside of his store, Philadelphia Salvage, which had a lot of doors in it. So I began asking him questions. To make an already too long story short he finally told me that what I had were old pocket doors... not just regular pocket doors though. They are multi-fold (accordion style) pocket doors. I knew that they were used (in a church, forgot to mention that part) as accordion style folding doors, because they have/had hinges on both sides....I just didn't know that they were called pocket doors. I'm still having a hard time finding much to compare them with online to price them....but I have found some that are close.

Now remember I said "half of them are different"? Which means the other half are more your run of the mill OLLLLD   antique doors! What are we going to do with them now? Well we have a few things in mind which finally brings us to my reason for posting today! We are going to use some of them for headboards! Have you seen these headboards? I'm sure you have, they have been around for a little while. Well if you haven't seen them, or would like to be reminded of what they can look like, I have collected a few pics from the internet for ya! Most of my doors are 2 panel doors. And most of them are white...or white that is chipping off and showing another color underneath. But there are also yellow, red, blue, and mint green ones! I even have a set of mint green and white snowflake glass exterior double doors. Ohhh be still my heart! Let me show you these dirty doors first! lol. No, I have not washed all 40 doors yet!

Yep, the dirt-dobbers had fun with some of these doors! It's taking a lot of elbow grease to get this stuff off!

This is one of the long pocket doors. They look so much better once they are cleaned up! See the wheels at the top?

I have several more pictures but I'd like to show ya what I found online...the pics of headboards! Let me just say that when I was searching and I started getting to the pics that had beautiful chandeliers in them....I started hearing the song off of Ferris Bueller's Day Off in my head......"Oh yeahhhhh, ...chick, chika, chickahhh....Oh yeahhhhh" Hahaha! For those of you that have seen it, you know what I'm talkin' bout!

Ok, 11 Headboards. (If you click on the link on the last one, it will take you to someone else's blog that has about 13 more headboard ideas on their blog!)

How Much Do You Value Your Work?

Are you starting your own business? Are you currently asking yourself "How much do I ask people to invest on each item they purchase from me?" Notice that I didn't say "How much do I price each item?" A wise woman recently told me..."You are NOT asking them to purchase an item for a price....you are asking them to invest in your business, to invest in you." This is your business. Each time a buyer purchases something from you, they are investing in your business and in you.
How much do you value your business? Your work? Yourself? If you're like me, you're having a hard time putting a number on how much you want to ask people to invest in you and your business.
So, I found this article and I hope that it helps you. It will most likely force you to do a few things that you haven't done yet. Lol.  Enjoy the article and feel free to comment and/or add any info you may have!

Chalk It Up To God's Schedule Changes

I finally finished our new old chalkboard! ;) Ive been talking about painting this for quite some time. My daughter and I had decided it was time we had one of these, about 3 months ago.
Our schedules were so crazy! It was difficult for us to keep up with all the appointments, games, cheer practices, sports practices, work.... The list goes on and on! But God... :) Don't you just love that phrase?
We made another decision not long after making the decision to paint this chalkboard... We decided to kneel before God together, giving Him our schedules, giving Him our time, and vowing to put Him first. We began to make time for Him, where there was no time. But every time we did... We ended up having the time for Him, for church, and to do what we needed to do. Funny how we are surprised when the creator of time is able to stop time for us...or at least slow it down! Lol. To make a long story short, we no longer need the chalkboard for our original purpose. Our schedules are NOTHING like they were approximately 3 months ago. Our lives have changed on so many different levels. But... We still get to enjoy the chalkboard! :) Just for different purposes now.

Just a thought.... What if that one thing that you think is impossible to do... Is actually possible? What if by giving that one thing to God would make all the difference in the world? What if it makes that dream of yours come to life? Makes that business a reality? Makes time with your kids, your parents, your friends actually possible? Makes 75% of the needless stress that you were under, go away? I'm not saying that God is some magician and will make all of your problems go away, because it doesn't work that way. We "gave" Him our schedules, and then we sacrificed our time daily and gave it to Him... Sought after Him, prayed... But that was something that seemed impossible before. It would've caused us to get behind on all other responsibilities before. But... After giving it to Him, and then stepping out in faith... It all became possible... It is all OUR REALITY now.
Think about it... What is is that you'd like changed in your life? What is it that is holding you back and keeping you from living the life that you KNOW you are meant to live? Now, consider trusting Him by giving it to Him and asking Him what your next move should be. He cares a lot more about the details in your life than you think He does. He's not given enough credit for that.

Give Away Winner

I recently had a drawing for a free sign on my Facebook page! I had posted that I'd give away the "Welcome" sign once we reached 200 likes and I am going to give away the "Home" sign when we reach 300! Last night the page exceeded 200 likes!! I was so excited to draw for the winner and contact them with the good news! Here is the sign that was to be given away:

It has a little antique looking drawer knob at the bottom, topped off with a cute burlap bow that is accented with a metal medallion that matches the knob!

And the winner is:  ASHLEY MCNEELY!

Ashley followed all of the directions to like the page, share the page/post and also commented on one of the pics. I was doing a little research after she won, and found that she has been the one to share the page the most!! So I'm so happy for her to have won!! Congrats Ashley!!

If you would like a Welcome sign similar to this one or would like more information on any of the signs please do not hesitate to send me a message or call! You can reach me at 817-917-5568!

I will have another drawing, when we hit 300 likes, for this "Home" sign:

(Accessories and frames not included)
Keep sharing the page, "Like" the designsbykendra page on Facebook and comment on the post about the drawing...that's all ya gotta do to be entered into the drawing!! Good luck!!

Now Accepting Orders Again

With Christmas around the corner, most of the ordered signs being mailed out this week and the rest being hand delivered between this week and next... I feel like I can breathe again! I stopped taking orders (sorta, lol) briefly, out of fear that I wouldn't be able to get any more completed by Christmas. But ever since I made the announcement that ordering from designsbykendra was on hold, I've received a handful of calls and messages from people wanting to order signs that would not be due by Christmas. So I've decided to release the "hold". ;) However, know that unless you are very local with an order for something pretty simple... I won't be able to get anymore orders completed for Christmas. But, if you are desiring a sign for after Christmas then you've come to the right place! Are you starting a "room re-do" as a gift for a loved one in your home?....Got most of it done but have a spot that's not filled yet?... Look no further. Lets take a look at what you've got and plan the perfect sign for that room! Or... Have you bought something for everyone in your family and now want to buy a little something for yourself?... Let me know what your favorite quote or scripture is... I know we can come up with the perfect sign for you!

"Being a Family Means...." Sign is the perfect example of a sign you could order for yourself. :) Both of these read "Being a family means you are a part of something wonderful, it means that you will love and be loved for the rest of your life, no matter what!" How sweet is that?!?

Contact me today with your idea and/or order. If you are having any trouble reaching me please feel free to call or text my personal cell phone at 817-917-5568! I'd love to hear from ya!

Two For One

Don't you love getting good deals!? Like buy one get one free...two for one, or a percentage off your entire purchase? Of course! Everyone loves a bargain, right? Well I recently came across a way to throw in a little extra, a two for one deal, on a couple of my latest signs ordered by two awesome customers!

Most of the time I try to paint the backs of my signs. I hate for them to just look like bare wood. So I painted the backs of these two signs:

They were each made from the same type of wood...from an old antique hand/home-made dresser. These are the sides of that dresser. Anywho, I painted the backs of them and fell in love with the backs just as much as the fronts! I decided that I just absolutely could NOT leave them bare! I had to do something to them! I wanted it to be something quick and simple but something that is "in" and makes a statement. Have you seen the Love signs on Pinterest lately? The ones that simply have the word "love" painted at the bottom of the sign? That's what I decided to do. :) Here are the backs of the finished signs!...

They will be perfect for Valentines Day... Or any day! But if they don't like them of course they never have to turn them around. ;) I think they will like them though! Whatcha think??

....Faith, Hope, and Love....and the greatest of these is LOVE!.....

Snowed In

We've been snowed in all day. Actually "iced in" would better describe it. I've been painting non-stop. Here's one of the finished signs. I sure wish I could show you all the rest of the signs but I don't want to take the chance of the intended recipients seeing them! So, I'll keep them under wraps for now! ;)
Any time I do one of these "Thankful" signs I can't help but to think of things I am thankful for. Today I am ever SO thankful that we have heat in our home! We have blankets and warm clothes... And most/best of all...we have each other to snuggle up with! Though...my 13yr old daughter isn't snuggling with me since her BFF is here. Lol. Maybe I should go crash their lil movie watching party they've got going on in there!! Whatcha think?? Lol
Thanksgiving is over but being grateful is something we should be every day of our lives! What are you thankful for today?
Like the knob?? I LOVE IT!!
